- Our Herds -
Irish Creek Bison is a cow/calf and finsihing operation. Our top bulls and heifers are selected for breeding stock and the remainder are put into our finishing program right here on the ranch.
Our Ranch Consists of 5 main Herds
along with 2 specialty herds, our bred heifer group and yearling bulls & heifers pastured separately.
Wood Cross Herd 1- This is a strong vigorous group that produces great gaining calves with even conformation. The cows in this group are big Irish Creek woodX cows and the bulls are from silver creek bison, big country bison and irish creek (from another herd).
Wood Cross Herd 2 - This group of cows consists mainly oh high percentage Plains genetics. The Bulls in this group are our thickest and stockiest wood cross bulls sired by our RSR bulls Dozer and Ripper and an XY bison bull.
Pure Woods -Herd 3 - The cows and bulls in this herd are 100% strong woods genetics (all DNA tested) . The tall, long and dark trait runs strong in this herd. The dams trace back to Hanging Ice genetics and the Sires are Viking bison ranch bulls (DNA tested, pure woods).
Pure plains-Herd 4 - This is a smaller group of cows that come from our own pure plains animals and from wolverine bison. they are all DNA tested pure plains and are bred by pure plains bulls from Hanson seed farms and bulls we have raised ourselves.
Replacement Heifers- Herd 5- Irish Creek bison replacement heifers produce their first calf in a separate herd. The bulls in this group are put in at breeding time and pulled in the fall just to guarantee an in-season calf for all our bred heifer buyers! (all our other herds have bulls in year-round). There are plenty of bulls for these ladies and they are often new to our ranch and are typically award winning bulls purchased from shows across Canada.
Rising Sun Ranch -Herd 6- This is a specialty group of top Irish Creek cows, owned and managed by Rising Sun Ranch. We work together with RSR by putting in exceptional bulls. The bulls ruling this herd are Dozer and Ripper and are names to remember. Most of the calves coming from this group are selected for breeding stock.
Manary Bison- Herd 6- Much like the RSR herd, this group is owned and managed separately and consists of show quality Irish Creek cows. The 7/8 plains bull single siring this group comes from our older Plains herd and is blowing us away by his performance and offspring. His name is Legend and he is becoming just that.
